Forget whispery florals and muted tones. Spring/Summer 2024 fashion is all about shouting your style from the rooftops. Bold greens, electric blues, and fiery reds dominate the runways, complemented by a dazzling array of shimmering metallics. This season, fabrics take centre stage, with a luxurious symphony of textures: imagine luxe satins cascading alongside breezy organzas, or delicate lace brushing against buttery soft leathers.
This is according to fashion stylist and ambassador for Luxity, Azeez Jacobs, who says that silhouettes are no wallflowers either. “Oversized and exaggerated proportions are key, championed by designers like Stella McCartney and Simone Rocha with their voluminous skirts and dramatic sleeves.
“But fear not, minimalists – single-colour looks in white, black, and red pack a powerful punch, proving that simple can be simply stunning,” he notes.
International trends for locals to lookout for
“Runways around the world were a hotbed of innovation this season,” highlights Jacobs. “Brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Jacquemus, and Dior dazzled with intricate details and luxurious materials. Gucci, meanwhile, offered a playful and whimsical take on maximalism, a reminder that fashion should be fun too.”
He points out that South Africans can effortlessly incorporate these trends into their wardrobes. “Think asymmetrical dresses that flatter all figures, maxi dresses perfect for balmy evenings, and high-waisted skirts that add a touch of vintage charm. Delicate lace blouses and dresses imbue femininity, while statement accessories like oversized pearls, chunky belts, and structured handbags complete the look.”
“Add a touch of unique personality to your style by incorporating pre-owned treasures into your wardrobe,” suggests Jacobs. “At the same time, these pieces help promote a circular economy and reduce the fashion industry’s environmental impact, offering a sustainable way to access high-quality fashion at an affordable price.”
